It’s still not clear who won, and we might not know for weeks!
As of this moment, about 99% of voting precincts have reported their totals, and Republican Brian Kemp has a lead of about 67,000 over Democrat Stacey Abrams.
In Georgia, the governor has to win at least 50% of the vote, or there’s another contest, a runoff, between the top two vote-getters. Kemp’s lead gives him about 50.4% of the vote. But Abrams has said she’s not conceding the race, and she predicts a runoff.
There’s important context here. Brian Kemp is currently Georgia’s secretary of state, meaning his office runs the elections and maintains the records of registered voters. Before Tuesday, it seemed like Kemp was doing everything in his power to keep new voters from registering to vote in this election. And on Tuesday, in a few precincts where there are a lot of people of color, the elections were really poorly run. We saw people waiting for hours to cast a vote.
do you ever see a gif of john or sherlock or both that just clobbers you out of nowhere like you’re going on minding your business then suddenly you’re like THATS JOHNLOCK BABE
