how powerful would Jake Peralta coming out as bisexual be, though?
Not only would he be representation for the incredibly underrepresented bi guy population, it would be so validating for people who realized they were bi after they were married or in long term, committed relationships.
think of how powerful it would be to see a bisexual person on television able to say and show that bisexuality isn’t performative–it doesn’t matter how many, if any, guys Jake has dated. Contrasted with Rosa’s storyline, it would be a great way to show two different kinds of ~the bisexual experience~. It could also lead to a very satisfying destruction of the “bisexuals are cheaters/greedy/untrustworthy” trope that I grew up with, because Jake? Cheat on Amy? You thought????
There are a lot of hints that Jake is bisexual, but the clincher for me was when Rosa asked for advice about how to come out to her parents. Yes, Jake’s reaction was funny, but it’s also the reaction of someone who has practiced what they would say to come out to their parents a LOT.
tl;dr Jake Peralta is bisexual, and he should still come out
